This tender yellow cake with chocolate frosting is super light, fluffy, and easy to make. The homemade frosting only takes 5 minutes!

Yellow Cake Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk cake flour, baking soda, baking powder & salt.

Cream butter & sugar in a stand mixer until fluffy.

Add eggs and egg yolk one at a time, mixing until combined. Add vanilla extract.

Alternate adding 1/3 of dry ingredients & 1/2 of buttermilk mixture to wet ingredients until all combined.

Pour batter into 2 greased cake pans. Bake until sides start to pull away from the pans.

With a mixer, combine chocolate buttercream ingredients until fluffy.

Assemble cake layers. Spread chocolate frosting all over using an offset spatula.
