Freshly Baked Flaky Apple Dumplings

Made with granny smith apples that hold their shape beautifully, these Freshly Baked Flaky Apple Dumplings are a true treat! Warm, golden-brown crescent rolls get baked along with tender apple wedges, creating a comforting dessert that pairs perfectly with ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of vanilla glaze!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, (1 stick)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cans refrigerated Crescent rolls, (8 each)
  • 2 Granny smith apples, peeled and cut into 8 wedges each

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350° F and spray a 9x13 pan with baking spray.
  • A saucepan filled with sauce and butter.
In a medium size pot over medium high heat, add the 1 cup water, 1 cup brown sugar, ½ cup butter, and 1 tsp vanilla extract. Cook and stir until the butter and the sugar is melted, about 2 minutes.
  • Bring to a boil for 1 minute, then take off the heat to cool. Stir and set aside.
  • Unwrap each crescent roll on a lightly floured surface or on parchment paper.
  • Crescent rolls unwrapped with a slice of apple at the top.
Add an apple wedge to the widest part. Wrap the rest of the dough around the apple. Place in the prepared pan. Repeat with all remaining crescent rolls. There should be 16.
  • Unbaked apple dumplings in a sweet sauce in a 9x13 pan.
Pour the sauce over the crescent rolls.
  • Apple dumplings lined up and baked in a pan.
Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and puffy.

Notes

You'll need two cans of crescent dough.
Granny Smith are the best kind of apples to use because they will hold their shape and offset the sweetness of the sauce. You can also use Honeycrisp apples.
