Simple Homemade Hot Cocoa for One (in Microwave!)

If you're craving a late night hot cocoa but don't want to turn on the stove, this recipe is for you! This single serve, homemade hot chocolate is made using the microwave. It combines 4 simple ingredients like cocoa powder, sugar, dark chocolate chips, and milk for a creamy and chocolatey hot drink. Get off the couch and grab your favorite mug, you will be back in 3 minutes or less!

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp white sugar
  • 1 tbsp dark chocolate chips
  • 1 cup whole milk, can sub for any other kind of milk

Equipment

  • 1 Mug
  • 1 Microwave
  • 1 Measuring Cup

Instructions
 

  • Grab your favorite mug and add 2 tsp cocoa powder, 2 tsp of white sugar and a tablespoon of chocolate chips. Set aside.
  • In a microwave safe measuring cup, add 1 cup milk. Microwave for 90-120 seconds. The milk should be scalding hot but not bubbling.
  • Pour the hot milk over the mixture in the mug. Let it sit for 1 minute untouched, then stir with a spoon to completely melt the chocolate.
  • Top with topping of choice and enjoy!

Notes

For creamy hot cocoa stick with whole milk. You can use any other kind of milk if you dont have whole though. 
You can use any kind of chocolate chips you have, even flavored ones! 
Any kind of cocoa powder can be used- dark, natural, or dutch process.
