How to Know When Pears are Ripe?

When buying pears, give the area by the stem a light squeeze. The pear itself should be somewhat firm, but ripe pears should have a little give by the stem!

Peel pears. In a pot, bring poaching liquid to a boil. Place pears in the pot to poach.

Whisk dry ingredients in a bowl. Separately, whisk wet ingredients. Stir with a spatula to combine.

Place fully cooled poached pears in a loaf pan, in a line down the center.

Pour cake batter in from the sides to evenly disperse. Make sure pears stay in place.

Sprinkle crumb topping on top. Bake until golden brown.

Let cool completely, then slice.
